As leaders in the public eye, on the public stage, our values are personal but never private.

We should consider every move we make as being under the glare of public scrutiny. Because every move, while not observed publicly, manifests publicly and that could be either good or bad, rarely both. You will be seen as a good guy or a bad guy. And it matters.

We live out our values in how we treat others, how well or how poorly we treat and relate to subordinates, colleagues and constituents. More important, how we relate to self. Self-awareness and emotional intelligence are keys to every leader's success.

People follow leaders they trust and are loyal to leaders they respect. Trust and respect are the currency of leadership, and our character and integrity are our stock-in-trade.

Character is easier to keep than to recoup. Once we compromise our character, we forfeit our integrity. Once we forfeit our integrity, we forfeit our right to lead.

Life and Leadership cohorts, courses, presentations, seminars, and staff development training are led by our founder Dorothy Burton, through Dorothy Burton, LLC.

Why the LLC? Because it is a private entity and you can use departmental training funds to attend or send your staff.

We tackle the hard topics. No subject is off-limits because the 21st-century leader must be a principled, mature realist who understands that life is not black and white, but varying shades of gray.
